Lindsey Smith

Lindsey Smith graduated Spring 2021 with a major in Sociology and a minor in African American Studies. She plans to pursue a PhD at Georgia Institute of Technology beginning Fall 2021. Keep reading for her advice for current and prospective AFAM students.

What was your favorite AFAM course and why?

AFAM 2000 Intro with Dr. Batts Morrow. It helped create an even larger picture of history that would have never known about and made it even easier to view historical figures more holistically and complexly.

Why should students consider a major or minor in African American Studies?

Everyone needs to be educated on the historical accuracy of the United States from the perspectives of everyone involved, which includes African peoples forcibly brought here and Indigenous peoples forcibly removed.

Support African American Studies at UGA

The Institute defines support in diverse ways to give you as many options as possible to assist in our mission. We consider â€œfriend-raising" as important as fund-raising. Your financial contributions and support help us to develop and strengthen our programs and offerings, both on campus and in the community.

Your gift makes a big difference. Learn more about how you can donate today.

Study within African American cultural history provides a basis for understanding political, social, and economic relations throughout human history.
