Russell Building Special Collections Libraries Auditorium (room 271), 300 S. Hull Street., as co-authors Dr. John Morrow, Franklin Professor of History at The University of Georgia and Jeffrey T. Sammons, Professor of History at New York University, discuss the storied African American combat unit that grew out of the 15th New York National Guard. As noted by Dr. Morrow, “The "Harlem Hellfighters" are the most famous African American fighting unit of World War I and compiled a record unmatched by any other Regiment in the American Expeditionary Forces.” Harlem's Rattlers and the Great War:The Undaunted 369th Regiment and the African American Quest for Equality by Jeffrey Sammons and John Morrow is the definitive study of this famous regiment known to have “never lost a man to capture or a foot of ground.” The evening will also include a screening of William Miles's acclaimed documentary "Men of Bronze," in which the Regiment detail their experiences.
