H.T. Edwards Teaching and Learning Center - 440 Dearing Extension Wednesday, February 26 2020, 6pm The UGA History Department, the Institute for African American Studies, and the ASALH Athens Branch are co-sponsoring an awards dinner for the winners of a Black History Month student essay contest. In recognition of the current election year and the women's suffrage centennial, Athens-area high school students have written essays on the theme “African Americans and the Vote.” Judges include UGA grad students from select departments. The dinner will be held at the H.T. Edwards Teaching & Learning Center, 440 Dearing Ext. (behind the Broad St. Cook-Out). A special group of teen chefs-in-training from the Athens Community Career Academy are preparing the meals. They will receive half the proceeds. Their supervisor is Mr. Emmanuel "Manny" Stone, Community Chef & Culinary Arts Coordinator. Tickets may be purchased online only for $25 each.
