Amiri Geuka Farris
Penn Center National Historic Landmark District, York W. Bailey Museum, 16 Penn Center Circle West St. Helena Island, SC 29920

The York W. Bailey Museum at Penn Center in St. Helena, SC, is currently hosting The Land in Us, an exhibition by Bluffton, SC, interdisciplinary artist Amiri Geuka Farris, through April 6, 2024. The opening reception for the exhibition is free and open to the public.

The exhibition will showcase new and existing works from Penn Center’s permanent collection by Farris, the 2023-24 artist in residence for Culture and Community at the Penn Center National Historic District, a Mellon Foundation-funded partnership between Penn Center and UGA's Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. This exhibition explores the land and socio-cultural dimensions of Gullah Geechee culture, both past and present. These artworks capture the essence of this rich cultural heritage through captivating scenes, which bridge the gap between the history and future in a visually stunning way.
